Indianapolis Lucas Oil Stadium

Football in Lucas Oil Stadium Indianapolis

The Lucas Oil Stadium opened in 2008 and is home to the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts. It is a huge and impressive brick building positioned next to some of Indy’s best restaurants and bars. It was built to replace the RCA Dome and make way for an expansion of the Indiana Convention Center. Lucas Oil Products committed 122 million dollars over the next 20 years for the Stadium’s naming rights. The Colts faced the Chicago Bears in their first game in their new home stadium.

The Stadium is also home to the Drum Corps International Championship since 2009 and is held annually. Other regularly scheduled events are the Bands of America Grand National Championships and the Indiana State Marching Band Finals.

The Lucas Oil Stadium receives rave reviews from fans. The Stadium covers 1,8 million square feet and seats 67,000. The Stadium has a retractable roof, and the home team decides if the top should be open or closed 90 minutes before the start of the game. The roof is constructed of two separate panels, each weighing 2.5 million pounds. It takes nine to eleven minutes for the roof to fully open or close. The Stadium also has a retractable window that, if opened, allows a fantastic view of downtown Indianapolis during a game or event. The total cost of the Stadium reached 720 million dollars.

Some other features of the Lucas Oil Stadium are the 139 private suites with two club lounges. Two 53 foot tall HD video boards and 360-degree ribbon boards make for excellent game viewing. The Stadium has seven locker rooms, 12 meeting rooms, and two large exhibit halls. There are 14 escalators, 11 passenger elevators, and two accessible pedestrian ramps to help visitors get around the Stadium.

Lucas Oil Stadium has four entrance gates, and each is named for a sponsor company. The north gate is called Lucas Oil, the south gate is named Indianapolis Colts, the third and east gate is named Verizon Wireless, and the fourth and west gate is called Huntington Bank.
More sponsors have logos, floor coverings, and banners on the concourses of the ground level.

No stadium would be complete without a pro shop. The Lucas Oil Stadium Pro Shop does not disappoint fans; it offers tons of Colt’s merchandise and apparel for all sizes and ages.

For hungry fans, there are over 160 food and drink concession stands throughout the Stadium. With over 200 food and beverage kiosks, this helps keep lines short and fans hungry for more. Centerplate is the only food and beverage operator in the Lucas Oil Stadium. Still, they offer a wide variety of choices, from the standard beer, pop, popcorn, hot dogs, and pizza to the Crown Royal whiskey, steak, shrimp, mac n cheese, and homestyle pot roast.

Lucas Oil Stadium has a high reputation in Indianapolis and is host to national and international sporting events. The Stadium caters to many events of all sizes and types with ease and proudly provides tours where visitors learn what goes on behind the scenes.

Football is not the only sport played in Lucas Oil Stadium. The United Soccer League’s Indy Eleven was held from 2018 to 2020 and drew large crowds. The 2021 NCAA’s I men’s basketball tournament moved to the Stadium and had the Final Four and the championship game there. Both Monster Energy Supercross (championship) and Monster Jam (monster truck competition) are annual events. One of Indiana’s largest conventions, the FDIC International (Firefighters convention), is also held at the Stadium each year.

Lucas Oil Stadium not only hosts sporting events but also live concerts from some tremendous name performers. With shows by such chart-topping artists as Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, One Direction, U2, and Guns N’ Roses.

The Stadium is well prepared for guests requiring an accessible facility. A wide variety of accessible seating options are offered for guests. All levels and entrances are fully accessible via escalators, elevators, and ramps. Accessible and family washrooms, wheel-chair assistance, designated parking, accessible ticket, concession counters, and assisted listening devices are available. The Stadium welcomes service animals.

Lucas Oil Stadium claims to have the best fans who are full of team spirit, Hoosier Hospitality, and passion. Fans are encouraged to come and support their favorite team with high energy and enthusiasm and bring the family for a fantastic fun-filled day.
